Philosophy Statement

Coaching Philosophy

Success.  That is what I thrive for and that is what I teach.  I want every athlete to achieve success in their athletic careers.  While achieving success in athletics is meaningful, I would also like the athlete to know how to translate that success to other aspects in life; academics, health, and being a good person not only to your family, but to your community or wherever you may be at the time.  There are a lot of little things that matter.  If you do not neglect these little things then they will develop collectively into big things.  The big things that you accomplish will lead to success.

I have many goals as a coach in track and field.  When I am with a program, the goals will vary depending on the program's views, but there will be several mainstays.  The mainstays that I will attempt are to develop each athlete's ability whether they are all american or a participant who could not compete in another sport and thought it would be fun to give track a go around.  I also will teach my athlete's to work collectively as a group to achieve their goals.  It is much easier to bring your dreams to a reality when you have a team supporting you and a community that is also behind you.  As part of each program that I am with there will be an emphasis on getting involved with the community to ensure a compatible relationship that will have a mutual positive effect.

At the high school level I want to encourage as many athletes as I can to compete at the next level which would be college athletics.  I will develop contacts throughout the area with Division 1/2/3/NAIA/Community Colleges.  Some athletes may not meet the requirements for a NCAA university, but may look into starting off at a community college and getting an Associate's degree.  For college athletes I want to encourage finding a balance between academics, athletics, work, and socially that will deem equal successes in each aspect.  I encourage graduation more than anything.

Hardwork and honoring friends and family are what I expect from my teams while achieving great things throughout each of their lives.  Every individual on the team is unique.  As a coach it is my job to bring out each athlete's best qualities while eliminating their negative habits.  I will never put a cap on a person’s abilities and will provide the most productive training program for development in their specific events.  I believe in utilizing exercise physiology in my program, but realize that interaction between the coach and the athletes in a positive manner will ultimately be the determining factor for success.
