Goals/Objectives Statement

Goals/Objectives Statement

Now that I have completed my internship in Indianapolis, I have a clearer view of what my goals are.  I would now like to pursue a coaching career in track and field at a university that is located near home.  A main goal through the next three years of my life is to also obtain a master’s degree.  A great way for me to achieve both would be to find a graduate assistant position of track and field that would pay for my tuition for graduate school.

I currently am coaching the middle distance men and women at Saginaw Valley State University.  I have complete control over workouts and a practice schedule.  The athletes continue to respond positively to my programs.  I enjoy building a team atmosphere while also instilling necessary discipline to maintain program adherence.

If I can make a living with enough money to start working on a master’s degree from Saginaw Valley State University then I will definitely stay throughout that time.  If I do not receive the support necessary, then I will pursue a graduate assistant position at another institution if the location and support is beneficial to me.  I would be interested in any level of college coaching including all divisions in NCAA and NAIA.

I have several other goals and objectives while coaching.  I would like to develop recruiting skills while actively recruiting student athletes to develop a track and field program.  I would also like to gain experience in meet directing so that I have the ability to organize and host an entire meet at any level of competition.  Budgeting, equipment management, scholarship, sponsorship, and media aspects I would also like to increase my experience in.

Building up contacts and certifications will also be necessary for me to get a head coaching position.  I will gain USATF coaching certifications during my assistant coaching years.  I will also communicate and network with coaches at the college, university, and even high school level as any of them could help me further myself in the future.

During my time at an institution I will relentlessly pursue to build a program based on the foundations and principles provided that are part of the institution’s mission.  I want to change young athlete’s lives for the better while guiding them in the right direction that will lead to ultimate success in their life pursuits.

On a side note, some things in life may also come into play when chasing my career dreams.  Family and relationships can change things in an instant.  During my time as a coach, I would like to continue being a good person staying involved and in contact with my family as much as possible.  I would also like to develop a family of my own that will be attainable with good balance and support with everyone involved.  If you are not happy away from coaching then it could affect athletes you come in contact with on a daily basis in a negative way.  Therefore having a positive outlook and a good balance between coaching and your personal life will bring the best possible outcomes.
